A Tribute to My Dad
You were a dad to me,
as good as a father could be.
you didn't always let your feelings show
yet, you loved me, this I know.
As a boy you bounced me on your knee
I could see in your eyes, how you felt about me.
You tussled my hair
and in your own way you showed, how you care.
You worked two jobs to keep us fed
and to keep a roof over our head.
In those days, no mention of love from you,
yet undoubtedly, it was true.
You were of a generation that commanded respect
and I always knew, just what you would expect.
You were firm and usually fair,
and you were always there.
No we didn't always agree,
as you were being you and I was being me.
As time went on we drifted apart,
but, you were always in my heart.
I recall my visits in later years
mum told me when I left, you shed some tears.
So there was a time when our hearts did touch,
this has come to mean so much.
I was pleased that we eventually became close
and these are the memories, I remember most.
So you will always remain in my heart
and because of this, we will never really be apart. ©
